To Be the Best Version of Yourself

August 15, 2017

Service opportunities for 2017 - 2018 in development.

Look below for last year's calendar and opportunities.

Teens, if you are interested in Service for our teens this is the information page for you!

Jesus says in the Gospel of Matthew that “… the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve….”  And, James 2:26 cautions us “… faith without works is dead.”

As Christians, we are to walk in the ways of Christ and follow his example.  We want to keep our faith alive.  One of the ways we are more Christ like to others is through service.  We are still coordinating our service dates.  Look back here often.

Service has become an important part of Youth Ministry at St. Perpetua where there are four different ways teen can serve:

1.  Liturgical Service Commitment – Teens serve at the Teen Family Youth Mass in various roles (usher, greeter,

gift bearer, cross bearer, musician, vocalist, reader, and hand out bulletins).  These roles are discussed at Youth

     Group and Confirmation.

2.  Parish Service Commitment – Teens volunteer in the parish in a variety of ways.  The primary ways are

listed below.  If Candidates have other ways of volunteering in the parish, please talk to Gary.

+ Assist with Parish Carnival Clean Up

+ Mass Donuts Set up and Clean Up

+ Assist with Christmas set up

+ Assist with Christmas clean up

+ Wine & Cheese Clean up

+ Summer 2018 Parish Picnic in July

+ Assist for two Tuesday evenings in a row with the Middle School TEAM program

+ Other Parish setting Opportunities discussed with Gary

3.  Local Community Service Commitment – St. Perpetua’ teens volunteer at the Contra Costa Food Bank.  On

select Wednesdays we gather by 5:20 at St. Perpetua, head to the Food Bank and volunteer from 6 to 8pm

where we sort and box, followed by a brief reflection and prayer.

Transportation to the Food Bank is through parent volunteers.

We will schedule __ Wednesday evenings and __ Saturday morning for these service opportunities.  Sign-ups

     are managed through Sign-Up Genius.

  • Dates Pending confirmation from the Food Bank.

4.  Social Justice Commitment – As part of our commitment to social justice, Candidates venture out to learn

about the real needs of the homeless and poor by eating and serving them at St. Anthony’s Dining Room in

San Francisco. SAign-Ups are managed through Sign-Up Genius.

For these trips, ten to twelve teens attend each trip.  Round-trip BART fare is $9.90, which each teen provides.

We gather for the 5:00pm liturgy at St. Perpetua the night before (for the three Sunday trips) for a special blessing

     at mass.

  • Dates Pending confirmation from St. Anthony's.

On the day of our trip, we gather at Lafayette BART by 8:30AM, take the 8:39AM train to San Francisco, volunteer

in the dining room from 9:30 to 1:45 (while we are there we share lunch with the people we serve) and return to

     Lafayette by 2:26PM.
