St. Perpetua Faith Formation Youth Ministry - Confirmation

To Know Christ Better To Make Christ Better Known

To Be the Best Version of Yourself

August 15, 2017

Greetings Teens

     and Parents of Teens!

St. Perpetua celebrates Confirmation for high school students in May 2018.  The date has yet to be scheduled by the Bishop's office.

St. Perpetua offers a one-year intensive preparation that begins in September and concludes in April or May with Confirmation. The parish invites all high school students, who are at least a sophomore in September 2017, to join with their peers for a year of prayer, reflection, community building, community service, liturgical celebrations, and spiritual growth leading to Confirmation in May 2018.  Confirmation remains an integral part of Youth Ministry in the life of our parish and thus Candidates can expect a full and engaging experience here at St. Perpetua.

To start, Candidates for Confirmation need only to be open to grow in relationship with God in the St. Perpetua faith community.  Some teens are not sure whether they want to be confirmed or not.  If this is you, come give us a try and see what opportunities are part of your faith once you learn to integrate faith into your everyday life.

St. Perpetua prepares teens for Confirmation in accordance with our parish and Catholic traditions, guidelines established by the Diocese of Oakland in 2010 (reaffirmed in 2015), and Canon Law.  To meet Canon Law, Diocesan, and Parish requirements, during the year, Candidates participate in the following five areas of preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation:

1.  Gathering Together to Experience Our Faith

+ Bi-weekly Sunday evening Confirmation Gatherings (September - May)

      + Three Sponsor-Candidate activities

2.  Liturgical Celebrations

+ Teen/Family Masses at select 11:30am Sunday masses

+ Ash Wednesday, Parish Reconciliation, Holy Thursday

3.  Service (not civic group associated) through the Confirmation program:

     + Parish

     + Liturgical Celebrations

     + Local Community Food Bank

+ Social Justice at the St. Anthony Dining Room in San Francisco

4.  Seven Youth Group Gatherings during the year

5.  An overnight retreat.

Confirmation Gathering Calendar

With the upcoming construction of our new Parish Hall, we are limited in our use of the current hall and church facilities.  The church’s availability for use will only be on the weekends for all of Faith Formation, therefore we have shifted a few things around to accommodate all children and teens in Faith Formation this year.

Confirmation will continue to gather primarily on Sundays.  For this year Candidates will have the option of attending one of two gatherings on Sundays: (1) The Alpha Group gathers from 4:30 to 6; and (2) The Omega Group will gather from 6:30 to 8:00pm.  Over the course of the year, there are a few gatherings with both groups at 7pm in the Church with sponsors.  See below for the Calendar for preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation that will be celebrated in May 2018.
